History

Charlotte East Community Partners held our first meeting in the Eastland Mall Community Room on April 23, 1996. The group group consisted of neighborhood leaders, business leaders, and city employees from Neighborhood Development

There was a consensus that the image of Charlotte East had been tarnished, and a strategy needed to be devised in order to protect the property value of neighborhoods and businesses.

The first year consisted of community meetings , starting task forces, and serving on citizen panels hosted by the city of Charlotte. CECP began marketing Charlotte East as a great area in which to live and conduct business.

Many great community leaders have led the organization over the years.

Darrell Bonapart was integral in organizing press conferences, delivering heart-felt speeches, showng support for the police, and assisting struggling businesses at Eastland Mall.
Mr. Bonapart introduced the First Annual Black Tie Gala in honor of all that is Charlotte East in 2007. Politicians & prominent residents of Charlotte East donned their finest attire with pride in their community. CECP is now planning our third annual Gala.

Heather Ferguson our current president has taken new steps to increase membership in the organization and engage more business owners. Her well-phrased questions and persistent quest for answers has earned her the respect of many elected officials, neighborhood leaders, & has resulted in a more interactive dialogue between elected officials and the community.
